intermittent no start headache

Fuel pump when cranking will run for a few seconds, but if engine does not start, it times out to prevent pumping gas thru a split line all over the truck, etc. If your meter allows DC amps, my fuel pump draws 5.1 amps. Reading amps on something shows it is getting power. Reading volts shows the potential is headed that way, but there could be an open circuit. Reading amps to fuel pump will confirm it is getting power, relay contact is not fried, etc.
