jack questions...
so i'm working on getting my disco ready for a cross country trip at the end of the year (so cal to st louis) and i'm looking for a jack to replace the missing stock one. i haven't seen any at the junk yards of coarse, so i'm likely gonna go aftermarket, so are there any reasonable priced ones similar to the factory or will i be alright with one like this?

This is what the RAVE says... I looked for a while to find how to rebuild the factory jack, couldn't really find anything. But since failure is pretty common it's probably better to replace it and relocate it OUT of the engine bay so it's not exposed to such temperature extremes. I mean $11 is pretty cheap compared to buying or refurbishing one.

haha so that says my floor jack won't work for it, though when i used it on the rear it had no problem (3000 lb racing jack). but will the hight of that bottle jack be sufficent to lift the wheel off the ground? i'm running 245/70/16's so basically stock sized tires.
The OEM jack is around 15" fully extended but it has a different top than other bottle jacks, kind of a Y shape.... I don't know that it would make a big difference on flat asphalt to change a tire, but could be bad on a trail. You should use jack stands if you are going to be under your truck anyway though.

i got my bottle jack from wally world for the disco. I used to have one for my old jeep that I got at harbor freight. Both have done very well and were def worth what I spent on them which was around 20 bucks each give or take.
I saw one at big lots for cheap like $15-20 but I don't know if it has the y top but it looked just like the factory one other than that. I remember it cause I saw the replacement one on one of the rover sites for like $50 right before i saw the one at big lots and thought it was funny the mark up cause it was "rover".
As long as your jack has the lifting capacity either a floor jack or any good hydraulic bottle jack would do. The Y is preferred as Spike indicated. Also make sure you have a solid surface to place the jack on, even if it is just a scrap piece of 2x10.
The high lift jacks are pretty good thing to have as well.
