Default Just bought my first D1 (97)

So I just bought my first D1 ever! Picked her up tonight at 7 and couldn't resist the temptation to take her on the roads. So I brought her to an OHV place about 20min out from my place. EPIC!! Is all I could think. I was glad to discover that all the gears worked in the TC, and hadn't seized! Got back home, opened the glove box to see if the owners manual was in there. Wasn't but I found service records and a code reader! Looking forward to Disco ownership, the good and the bad

Thanks! Also I have a couple questions (excuse me for my ignorance! lol). But I was wondering why 1) D1s take ATF for power steering? And 2) my locks are kind of sticky, would a few squirts of WD-40 be ok to use? . .Thanks everyone!

Congrats on your new purchase! Might want to check the cubby under the driver's seat for the owner's manual. They are too big for the glove box. I use CHF for the power steering fluid, but it's like $23.00/liter & explain sticky (with a key or they all don't lock/unlock when you use the plunger)

Checked, nothing there. Is the transmission in any way connected to the power steering (probably a dumb question)? Is CHF better? When I stick the key in, its hard to turn it to lock or unlock. The previous owner accidentally snapped a key off in the front passenger door; which I haven't figured out how to get it out yet. Thanks!

The RAVE calls for ATF DexII, but LR Denver said it was told it was better than the ATF. For the key in the ignition, I might try some graphite before I tried the lube & see if that helps. I snapped the key off in my ignition with my knee, it cost over $600.00 to get it replaced. As far as the key in the door, Unless it's crudded up, and you can see the edge of the key, you can work it out with a jeweler's pick.

On the stuck key issue. I tried using a paper clip with a bent end to try and fish it out but the little slat that covers it is preventing me from sliding it out

Maybe steal your wife's/gitlfriend's/signifigant other's most precision tweezers and try to get that key out?

It's not too uncommon for power steering to use ATF. It's just hydraulic fluid. The two post lift at my friends shop uses ATF too.

I also have a pretty bad power steering leak. Is there a way to disengage the pump so I dont burn it out till my lines come in? . .haha Abram, that's a pretty good idea. I'll give it a try
