Key Stuck in Ignition 1996 Discovery
#11
Well its definitely in park. i have went through the gears, wiggled the key, sprayed lubricant, check fuses, push, pulled, and all of the above. I read somewhere where it could be the shifter cable that needs to be adjusted. That is the next thing i plan on looking into. Someone has already gone through and messed with the wiring (im assuming to bypass the alarm?). I will probably break down and buy the new cylinder. The issue i see with those are they all say they are for manual transmissions and not automatics. so i am at a loss when it comes to that.

problem solved! the new key i had made was not allowing the key to push all the way in. I used a small screw driver to push the cylinder in and turned the key. key turned to zero and came out. Went in the shop and took a sanding disc and filed down the key so it is able to push in all the way. Presto! everything works great.
thanks for all the help

Not sure where you found an ignition switch that inexpensive. The ones I found were 5x that for an automatic and about 2x that for a manual trans. It pays to shop around.
But then I needed the electrical part as well as the keyswitch part. Previous owner had really butchered it and chopped up the wiring.
