Default Lazy Locks - 96 Discovery SE7

When I pull on the outside door handles (with the doors unlocked) 3 of the 5 doors will lock themselves.
All open fine from the inside. Actuators all work. Lock ***** all go up and down.

When opening the driver's and rear door from the outside, If I put the key in and leave it in the unlock position they open fine.
The passenger door doesn't take a key, so I have to reach in and pull up on the **** while pulling on the outside handle.

Just wondering if anyone knows if this is just a straightforward linkage adjustment, Or, at least what component / tab / spring /etc. is responsible for holding the lock in the unlocked position?
The back door of my Discovery2 also does this, so I'm thinking somebody (maybe lots of somebodies) must have run into this before.

I have that problem as well. Would love to hear what people have to say about this. I have the same problem with the cargo door and the drivers side rear door.

sounds like the little latch spring in the lock mechanism. you can buy a pack on ebay that covers all 5 doors for like 5 pounds. relatively straight forward job but time intensive. took me about 2 hours on my first door.

Thanks for the lead Slickshoes!

I found a 5 pc kit on ebay for $1.95 USD! (free shipping too)
Hopefully the replacement procedure will be self-evident.

It was nice to see that kits are also available with clip sets for the doors for those who haven't had a lot of practice getting the door panels off and on without breaking the clips. Those kits were about $60 though.

New lock spring(s) or not you will still need to adjust the linkage rods.

Have at it.....

replacement does take a bit of work. i had to pull the window frame out to drop the lock mechanism out of the bottom of the door. there are plenty of write ups on how to replace the springs. i didnt need to adjust my linkage but YMMV.

Good stuff to know. I needed that drawing of the whole mech for another project I am in. This forum is by far the best.

All those diagrams and much much more can be found in the workshop manual. Check out the link in my signature for .pdf versions and feel free to download all you wish.
