Default Leaking Head Gasket

I think that my 1996 Disocvery 1 is in need of head gaskets. It has about 190,000 miles on it and is in pretty good order overall and runs strong. It did show a miss code a few weeks ago, but I changed plugs and wires and haven't had a new error code. Noticed a coolant smell a few days ago and found coolant on front of block below head.

So here are my questions:

(1) Is there anything else I should do while I have the heads off? i.e. timing chain set, water pump, thermostat.
(2) Oil pan gasket is leaky. Is it possible to change oil pan gasket without pulling the motor?

Advice is appreciated.

At your mileage, you should e looking at a chain, an oil pump repair kit and inspect the cam lobes for wear, you may be a candidate for a new cam set up. Read my stick ay the top of the De section on head gaskets and valve train noise.
Might also consider going thru my major service list posted at the top of this section and see how current your truck is.
