First post in quite awhile! I'm just starting to look at LRs again (son is almost driving age). I almost passed out when I saw what these are going for nowdays!! Based on what I am seeing, what you got, for what you got it, in that condition, was a great buy! Can't wait to see more pictures!

Counting the days man. If these things hit $40k, I'm throwing in the towel.

I picked up a couple cans of premium, and a new battery for it. Battery guy wasn't sure if the agm type would be the best for it depending on how it charged, something about the older alternators not putting out enough charging volts to fully charge an AGM battery. So I went with the best conventional type for now.

It is a blizzard out and roads are bad, I will try and pick it up tomorrow but not looking forward to pulling it on a trailer in this weather. After Christmas supposed to be close to 40 below for a few days so I would like to get it in my warm shop before the cold starts to move in tomorrow night.

Nothing like having a new toy to get excited about!

Any particular brand of code reader for the older discoveries? I might as well get one of those ordered .

Do most of the parts places ship to Canada or do any Canadians on here have suppliers they prefer?

Thanks a bunch again guys.

I think the code readers are all the same. The protocol is OBD II and you don't need a specific LR code reader, at least at the beginning. There's a shop tool with better data that you don't need yet. In my experience with other makes, the generic ones will at least get you on the right track, even if not the "full" manufacturer data experience. I use a standard ELM327 bluetooth dongle like this (
Amazon Amazon
) with Torque app on Android. You need to get a wifi dongle if you only have an iPhone, and you'd need a different code reading app. There's a free app called "GEMS Reader" that can get you some specific info on things like fuel trim and re-set adaptations, but I think it's only for ANdroid. It will work with the bluetooth dongle if you go that way.

I think you did the right thing with the battery. Not sure about best vendors for up North, sorry!

I didn't realize it wasn't drivable. Is that due to the brakes? You may have many fun years ahead of you, so resist the temptation to do anything crazy in getting it home....

Good luck weathering the cold!

Thanks for the info on the scanners, I will look into it. I do use Android, Google phone.
The vehicle is driveable for sure, it is approx 45 miles or so from the dealer to my shop and I didn't really want to drive it that far in this crap weather, roads very salty too . I would have to insure it I think , I believe I pay extra on my company insurance to drive other vehicles so I will look into that tonight.

Stressful drive on black ice roads today to go get the rover and bring it to my shop. Couple tense moments pulling the trailer but I have it in my shop now!

Will be able to tinker with it for the next few months to hopefully bring it up to snuff. Runs real nice.

Ordered the bluedrive scanner . Couldn't find the other ones mentioned on the Canadian Amazon..it seems to get good reviews.

My F350 and flat deck to haul the rover home.

Unloaded!!

In my shop ready to defrost.

you're going to want to replace the black plastic overflow tank. it's original and they were known to crack at the seam.

nice looking Rover and welcome to the club.

my first Rover was a '96 Discovery. i still regret selling it.

it was just fun to drive.

If you are doing pads, rotors AND calipers look into upgrading to D110 brakes. They are a direct fit and have larger pistons and pads.
