A 96 D1 MAF will work up to mid year 99 D1. Any year within that range will work.

 

So does the speedometer on the Ultra Gauge pull its reading from the VSS?

 

It pulls it from the ECM. Signal is sent to ECM from the VSS. The ECM interprets and sends it in a signal for the speedometer. The ECM is where the UG gets all it's readings from. The UG is plugged in to the Diagnostic Port which is direct path to ECM. If your having comm issue you have to trace at least six wires, power, ground and sense signal in and out of ECM.
