You can put D2 headlights right in. I have been told they are a little brighter. The blackish rim is the only difference.

You should research the driveshaft swap. http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9300.cfm That is the pricey kit, but you can find others on e-bay. WHatever you do, digure out how the transfer case works before you fix it and drive it.

As for the tail lights, you can cut the tail off and swap for a D2. If you know a good body guy and have a spare D2 rear, it can be done. Not the easiest thing to do, but no the hardest either...

They have to be 99-03 headlights right OK? The '04's won't fit I think. Didn't spence have a thread about DII headlights going in but he would have to modify? Maybe that's what I was thinking. Maybe it was the '04's and I was thinking it was all DII's. Ok straighten me out here. I guess I got confused. My bad.

i just re-read my post and may have sounded a little optomistic. Just to clarify, when I say tail, I meant the entire rear end of the truck. There is a body line and screws to remove the rear skin and light housings. I swapped a 95 into my 96 because it was so beaten up. I saw it done with a swap from a d2 to a d1 first, so I know it can be done. Took me about 6 hours to do myself, but I have done fabrication and body cutting before. Definately not for the novice.

But the headlights are truely a direct swap. You can even fit the 2003-04 lights in with some cutting..

one of those weird same-time-post things.....

I have the write up for the 04 install into previous D2's. There is cutting there too, just more into a D1. The grill has to be modified if you want to swap it, but the actual lights are direct swap.

I'm still waiting to see if driving it like that for an extended basis affected (trashed) the transfer case.

Alright, that's what I thought. You had to do fab work to make them fit. But I just thought it was all the DII's not just the '04. Again my bad, but at least I don't feel like a complete idiot now. I was on the right track just forgot that the 99-03 and 04 are different. Thanks for the clarification OK.

Well maybe he can get the transfer case from Prime Suspect before he sends his 96 to the crusher, since he will probably need one sooner than later.
