lugnut frustration
#22
Just had a thought. What if you removed the caps and placed an o-ring on top of the lugnut then press the cap back on. This would hold the cap tight and eliminate the jingles. Too busy with the head gaskets to go try it right now but I'll let you know. Maybe next I'll figure out how to get the factory lug wrench to fit. Do you think they fit when they left the factory?

Possible Solution
Had very similar issues with my Discovery I. Some lugnuts were over tightened and then very hard to get off. Some caps were bent, etc, etc.
I found these online and ordered a set today, I'll report back on how they work out. These are 1 piece replacements.

I got a new lug wrench from Trevor since my D1 didn't have one..
All my covers were/are wrecked. Except 1 new lugnut...
You can replace them all with new ones for a hundred bucks.. I think they're $4.99 each...
I use the lugwrench and a big rubber hammer.. Hammer the wrench onto the lug.. Wiggle it around good till it comes off.. Rotate 1 flat and repeat..
Do this till the wrench works again.. No the lugsnutz are already toast so I'm not worried about what they look like...I may spray all the tops black...I may spray the wheels on the outside with BedLiner coating..I'm seriously considering spraying the lower third of my body panels with bedliner as well..
