speedo broke

Hi All i have a 300tdi 96 N reg on the way home last night my speedo packed up, is this a cable drive or electric feed it is an Auto model

Will most likely be a vehicle speed sensor on the transfer case that signals the dash cluster, where a small circuit board counts the pulse and drives the gauge, cruise control, ECU, etc.
