M/T lubricant??

That is what the manual calls for on a 94 Disco, there is also a TSB on the fluid used in an R380. LR says to switch it to MTF but you can't find it anywhere. A lot of people have switched to Redline MTL which I am considering. Right now I am running ATF.

there are other modern transmissions (a few domestic ones come to mind first) that call for atf also. i think its partially for mileage reasons (atf being thinner and lighter) and possibly for shift feel as well.

Not only is ATF recommended I had a situation using gear oil in the R380 and Fifth gear exploded ending it's life (it was rebuilt and less than 6 months old). I found a used one and immediately replaced the fluid which was gear oil. These transmission are very sensitive to what you put in them.

Probably had to do with the additives used back in the days that it was recommended by the manufacturer.
Additive packages in oils change over time, what was good then might be bad today. It is like trying to find Transmission fluid for Series Rovers. Certain fluids did not impact the yellow (brass) metals in the transmission, but the additives have changed spec and end up eating the yellow (brass) metals and causing catastrophic failures.
Think of oils, greases, and other fluids like food... most people these days look at the details on the back or side of the packaging of what is inside them, rather than what is stamped on the box package.

On another note, does anyone know where a lay person can find LR TSB's?
