I got myself a rivet gun and an assortment of rivets. Funny thing is I had a problem taking off the **** and the leather gaitor. I twisted off the **** but could not get that square piece of plastic off. Terrified I might break it I waited till this morning. Then I found out all I had to do was get a flathead and push the side clamps in! Tell you how it goes later today after school.

Do you have a power drill and an assortment of sharp drill bits? Maybe even a good center punch? And first off, do you know how to use a power drill correctly?
Do you have safety glasses? (Helps to keep debris out of your eyes)

 

Yes I have a power drill corded AND uncorded.
Yes I have bits of all sizes and assortments.
Yes I know how to use all my tools and accessories.
No I do not have a center punch, but I'm sure I can get one to use.
And yes I have safety glasses, I use them from mowing the grass to working on iPhones, to auto repair and work.

 

Well you got a pretty good start then. Using a center punch will prevent the drill bit from "walking" on you.

 

When it starts to kind of move on it's own because not enough pressure is being pushed down on the bit?

 

Yes, but it allows you to precisely locate where you want your pilot hole and on driiling out a part, you can pound a good starting point usually. On a flat panel you should always use a punch to start a hole.

 

What size drill bit should I use? And how exactly should I drill this out? I have never messed with rivets before and I don't know if I'm supposed to make the hole bigger or what.

 

Just use a drill bit slightly larger than the rivet hole, but smaller than the rivet flange/head. You drill till the head comes off and push the rest of the rivet through so it drops out the other side. No need to drill the hole larger.
