Missfire on cyl 6 please help.
Well the valve job is more if one of the valves are bad. If they are good then no need
But figure if I need to replace one, may as well replace them all so it's starting fresh so to speak. But either way on the valves (as I haven't been able to finish pulling it apart lol ) am for sure going to have them decked.

Hello if anyone is still there :P Not much to update on other than ordered the heads today and they should be here round the 21st. So that will give me time to fix the wiring for the windows (someone massively jury rigged it up.
But to the question is there any specific type of head gasket set should I order (as far as company) dunno if just a generic one would work or if there is any special brand I should use. Anyway thanks for any input and will keep ya updated as things progress.

Give me a second to wake up......oh you, howdy back!
Felpro is the only gasket manufacturer that has come out of the stone age. They actually did their homework on em and they said so, look em up. I use them exclusively on everything I snag heads off of, even a lawn mower (jk)....... I'm dead serious, they did a great job of sealing around the coolant ports front and rear. Those rears are very thin (unlike two Aunts I have).

+1 on the Fel-Pro. they make a MLS(multi-layer steel) gasket for the Rover.
Thanks for the info, and the laughs
. Heads shipped today so if I'm lucky will be able to grab a gasket set and get it here before the heads. And now I must back to my morning coffee (Mt. Dew :P ) and then go up to finish fixing a 45 degree pitch roof on my shop.

Your post was like a horror story to me lol because I am having the same issue, missfiring on #6!! I was so disappointed when I came to page 6 and your problem is still going on
i feel your pain!
I already checked the wires and coils by using the inline spark plug wire tester and they all came out good. I dont have the tool to take the spark plug out tonight but i will do it as a first thing in the morning. Do you have any tips? Lol dont scare me, please! I am few inches away from putting an ad on craigslist!
edit: also the CEL keeps flashing!

I reset the codes(via bluetooth obdII) and crank the engine, it doesnt give any codes or CEL for few minutes( i can drive a block or two) before the CEL flashes for few times then stays solid. It flashes few more times on random times.
edit: i got the spark plugs out from cyl6 and cyl4, they both look horrible but cyl6 has some metal shreds in it(just like the ones that sticks to the oil drain bolt magnet. I swapped them and now i get a p0304 code. I might be able to get away with a set of copper spark plugs!

Second edit!: i took the faulty/dirty spark plug and cleaned it/sand papered it a bit and now the truck runs like a champ! My only problem left is the o2 sensor errors which is also fun to diagnose, said no one ever!
Good luck to you on this stressfull path, M3g474rd.

Sorry for the late reply, am glad that it was just plugs in your case and were able to get it up and running
. Also thank you for understanding, this has been a trying time. What I would suggest to anyone is after plug check, and wire check would be test compression on the cyl. that it is throwing codes for. If those are good, well have read many things on what can cause it lol. As far as your o2 sensor you may be able to get away with just pulling em and giving them a good clean rather than trying to track down what one/ones might be bad.
Back to my Rover... well it has taken longer than expected as things keep popping up, well that and finding out about the low compression. Right now just waiting on remaned heads, gasket set, and bolts to show up. Then throw er back together and eventually when have more ability, time and money get the heads that are on it now cleaned and decked.
Anyway thanks and once again glad to hear the good news about your Rover back on the road and running like a champ, or close to anyway :P
So just a little update here, got the heads yesterday and boy are they shiny :P, also got the head bolts today. Now it's just waiting for the gasket set and the exhaust manifold bolts. Then let the good times roll.
Hope ya'll are having a good one, and a great weekend.
As always will keep ya posted
