I would like to install a manual switch for my condenser fans for off-road, big long hills, towing, ect. what is a good way to splice a switch into these fans to bypass the ECU commands.

I cant remember where I saw it, maybe ebay,....but there are "in line" ...in the radiator hose switches out there that would seem to make that job easier .....that way maybe you wouldnt need to watch the temp gauge so much.

 

On a D1 those fans come on with AC and stay on. So if AC is on you are ahead of the game. I'll post some wire info later tonight.

 

Find relay K109, as shown in attached RAVE page, passenger kick panel.

Find green with white wire on that relay. Attach a second wire that you switch to ground, this will bring on the fans.

 

so i just need to add a wire for a toggle switch into the wires for the k109 relay? The switch causes the grounding?

Yep, the ECU applies a ground on that wire to make relay operate, the power leads are already fused, etc.

 

bumping this... so i have one of these switches..



how do i wire it to apply ground to the relay? this is a new concept to me. usually the switch is wired with a ground, 12v supply, and the lead to power the relay.

 

Bump again... When the white/green wire gets grounded it sparks and blows the fuse. That wire has 12v going through it. What am I doing wrong?

 

My electrical isn't the greatest but that probably isn't the best switch for completing a ground circuit, though it should work. Ground IN would go to the upper short terminal, ground OUT would go to the lower short terminal.
Normally that switch lights up when the circuit is completed where the hot would come in the top and out the bottom and the middle terminal would be grounded to allow the light in the switch to illuminate.

 

I figured the switch wouldn't light up, that isn't a big deal. But I don't understand why the wire I'm supposed to ground is hot, and when I ground it sparks out and blows the fuse.
