Default mounting a rear view mirror

Just had a new windshield installed and it has the OEM mount thing on it.

I had the last windshield installer change the mount to a 'normal' one. (maybe that's why it cracked six years later).

How are you dealing with the crazy LR OEM mount?

I just want a cheap mirror with a manual night time flip adjustment. No autodim or anything special.

I changed mine over to the D2 mirror so you have a compass Uses the land rover mount. My windshield also has a big gouge in it (inside) exactly where the mirror mounts, si I moved the mount over about 2 inches and it has worked with no problem for about 4 years now. The mirror with the compass does need to attach the wiring for the compass.

Turns out the simple “manual dimming” units are available. AMR2147
They are not terribly cheap, but oh well.

R&R'ed a couple of them. Always causes a part of my anatomy pucker up.
Manual basically says use your hand to smack it downward to remove. Reverse to install.
It works, but I don't like it.
My '97 had the familiar GM puck glued a bit off center and a plain flip down mirror installed. The OE mount thingy was still there behind the mirror.

My '94 came with the flip lever mirror. No problem, but maybe a bit too easy to move. The '96 has auto dimming, which needed replacing due to bad glass (got one from wrecking yard, upgrade with map lights), then the replacement needed the glass replaced. Like you, I like the simpler mirror better.

I had a 95 with the manual flip mirror, but it would constantly just fall off no matter what I tried. I finally gave up and bought a manual flip rear view mirror that suction cups onto the glass. They're all sorts of styles, but I got one that was slightly larger than the OEM one. Worked great, no chance of the LR mount taking the glass with it, and it only fell off 1 time. After that it NEVER came off again. It was like 20.00 online and worked very well IMHO.
