Default Must be in Diff Lock w/out Front Shaft?

Removed my front driveshaft, well to be honest I paid $27 for a shop to do it while I was at school.....

Regardless, I jumped in the truck and put it in reverse with lever in unlocked hi (bottom right). Motor revs, no movement. After a finicky motions I moved T-case lever to bottom left, Diff Lock Hi. This felt like it locked in, because the infamous Disco clunk into reverse occurred. I've been driving all day like this. Periodically I try and switch over to normal Unlocked high (bottom right), to no avail.

Also, Mr. Mechanic said he was able to move the truck out of the bay in unlocked high.

This confuses me, because our trucks are all-time 4WD, correct? How could CDL effect the truck moving/not moving with out a front driveshaft?

The center differential allows the front and rear propshafts to rotate at different rates. Power always goes the path of least resistance in an open diff so all the power is going to the front and getting you nowhere. Locking the diff forces equal power to the front and rear forcing the rear to move.

You can drive around for weeks like this while repairs are made to shaft.

So why did you have it removed?
