Default Name this sound

ok first off I cannot seem to get a recording of it.
I'm working on it but every time I try to capture it I can't reproduce it. Then it happens. Very annoying.
When I put my D1 into gear, D or R, at random occurrences, it'll make this clockety-clickity type noise for about 1-2 seconds. It doesn't happen every time. Very random and it doesn't seem to matter if it's been running or cold. It'll occur coming out of P or N. It's not very loud or jarring by any means. Kind of reminds me of you put a spoon into a tin can and slapped it around. I started noticing it a few times before I just did my u joints so I didn't cause it there.

All my fluids are topped off but I'm sure I'm so for a tranny fluid drain and refill. I just can't isolate this one. Any ideas??

I get that same sound as I'm coasting/braking to a stop. Usually around 1,100-1,500 RPM and 30-ish MPH. I can replicate it when underneath the thing. Pound on my cats. They rattle a lot when I smack them with my fist.

where is the sound coming from? are your windows down or up when you hear it? how fast are you traveling? Does this happen after releasing the E brake?

I only hear it periodically when fully stopped and shifting from P to R, and from R to D. For instance I put in R to back out of a parking spot. It happens. I then immediately put into D to proceed and it occurs again. Not every time but maybe 20-30% of the time.
I can only hear it then. There's no issues with gear shifting at any time or any speed. Shift points are smooth and trouble free. I do have the notorious clunk occur randomly also when shifting from P to R or R to D as well.
My windows are always down. Can't run AC. Spikes the temp but that's a fan clutch issue. The noise is from under the truck between the back of the engine and the T case area. Can't get a helper to assist me in the truck right yet to try to pinpoint more right yet.

I don't use the parking brake. It's busted. I can pull the handle but there's no tension. I'm pretty sure the cable stretched out or became separated somewhere in its sheathing. Another issue.

There is an adjustment at the e brake drum. It's the same as adjusting an old drum brake system that has teeth you adjust to spread the drum shoes apart. You can also see if the pin didn't fall out behind the e brake handle mechanism. That can be a possibility.

my guess is that if it sounds like something in a tin can it is a heat shield or somewhere in line with your exhaust. describe the noise to us again

does it ever do it at idle?
