Default Need Help

New to Land Rover family have a 98 Discovery the driver door is locked the lock moves little bit but not all the way up or down and wont open from inside or out. I can open the passenger and rear door but then alarm sounds. The engine is disabled. What do I need to do to make it where I can drive it home. Any help would be awesome thanks in advance. I only have a keys.

Harder than you realize. The front driver door has an extra part that is a small switch. This signals the alarm system that car is locked, etc. If this is jammed, you are in a pickle, called immobilization. Will see what I can dig up and get back here in a few minutes.

1. If LED in dash above steering is OFF, alarm is off, this is good. If it is on or flashing, how is it blinking?

2. If light on, open hood. Locate "cube" switch on firewall on passenger side, has big round button on top. This is the inertia switch. Push button to reset. May not make a change. If alarm light flashing, like system is armed, disconnect inertia switch wire. This simulates a crash, and system is supposed to unlock electrically every door. Inertia switch has to be plugged in and reset to crank.

But this might not work unless vehicle ignition key is in Run" position.

Attached pages show a way to knock the immobilization out that keeps engine from cranking.

Locate connector c105 in pictures. find pin 11 the Black Orange wire, headed toward passenger side. Use a small wire jumper and connect that to frame ground. That should allow cranking.

You will need the RAVE download below (free) which has all electrical drawings, shop manual, etc.

And more -

In under hood fuse box, fuse F4 is 30 amp, and runs alarm. Unplug. May kill noise, but may not allow cranking. Try unplug and plug back in, then turn on ignition key within a few seconds.

See attached pages - this is wiring for the left hand door switch. It runs by the driver's kick panel, so you could be a pretzel with door closed an get to it. You want to put a momentary ground on pin 3 of connector 2101, it is a blue/green wire. That is the same as turning the door key.

You might have to have it towed home, battery disconnected, use a dolly under one set of wheels and lift the others, dragging up the ramp on a wrecker can break the transfer case.

Rovers place great effort in alarm systems, to protect the sacks of gold that must be transported to dealers...
