I want to share this with as many forum members as possible, that new sensors (STC1749) have fixed the problem of slow speed activation of the ABS. The old sensors have much weaker magnetism, demonstrated in the thread So What did you do to your Disco Today sticky (26 June). It's hard to see how many views it got there, so posting this here now. Also posted on the D2 Forum, since they get the same failure mode.
The price for replacement sensors finally came down low enough for me to experiment. Got both front sensors for under $65 total delivered, including new bushes and plastic mounting clips. So now I have re-installed the fuse for the ABS Pump, ABS warning light is out, and ABS works well on gravel roads. I did not need to replace the bushes, so job was super easy, and now I have spare bushes. Hope this helps out some folk. New sensor has stronger magnet
Thanks @johnzo. I just did this repair and it resolved my ABS issues. I also had a disco that would fire the ABS unexpectedly at low speeds making parking lots and stop signs occasionally high risk. I put in new sensors from Atlantic British a few weeks ago and the ABS functions now. Easy swap except I reused the old bushings because they did not want to come out.
