I too bought a used D1 except mine was from a towing company auction in Henderson, NV. Replaced radiator, flushed transmission fluid, replaced all other fluids and also flushed the brake fluid as well. Got the truck with 116k miles on it, currently at 158k, re-did head gaskets at 156k, drove from Vegas to Austin in the snow following a huge storm in 2010 and many trips between Austin and Houston. This is a bulletproof truck. To echo others, just maintain, maintain, and maintain it. Love it and it will take care of you.

You will not find a more capable, fun to drive, head turner (yes, mine still whips heads around and it's only mildly lifted) for the money.

Yeah, once you overcome the existing issue, you should do well with it.

Eric, you did find a real Mechaics Special, they just charged you as if it were in Good Condition.

I see ads that claim "really nice shape, excellent condition except for minor engine problem".

Ok so I went to the dealership where the truck was serviced. I had them pull the service records. It seems this truck needs a brake booster..

I'm like sweet!! Nice no biggie. Then he gave me the price...is it freakin possible that thing is 4000 bucks???! I nearly fell over!!

If this for real... Is there some sort of conversion or retro fit??

Service records are to tell you what WAS wrong, not what IS wrong.

If it really needs a new brake booster I'd get a used one from Paul Grant, or ptscram. You could also get one from British Pacific, Rovers North, or Atlantic British.

I can't believe it's really that much. The tech who looked it over doesn't remember it so it's hard to say what he saw and why he diag'd it that way.

I will look into used ones. Thanks for the info.

Also. I pulled the records because the previous owner was billed for diag time. The notes on that ticket said brake booster. After he got the price he had it towed home where it's been sitting ever since.

Did they mean brake booster or ABS modulator?

For $4000 you can buy a whole new truck.
