New To Land Rovers and could use some advise
Ya know its funny cause they were telling me to steer clear of any discovery before 04. They were telling me how bad it is. Odd thing for them to do. Since I told them I'd e buying parts from them whenever possible.
So strange that people's opinions of these trucks can be so radically different. Ou ask some one about a old Chevy truck 90% of the time you get a generally good answer. It's so weird how some people Absolutley hate these trucks. Then some are in love w them.

I would not even go back to them for parts. LR quit stocking a lot of parts for the earlier Discoveries and was in the process of destroying a large quantity of parts. The owner of Rovers North found out and bought out what was left of their inventory.
You are better off dealing with the vendors listed on lots of threads here.
Rovers North Atlantic British, RovahFarm and a few others for "retail/new" parts.
The dealership probably sees very few older ones and charges 125 or more an hour and is not out to save you money by any means.
And it sounds like he parked it becaue of the high price on the brake estimate. He already had it rebuilt so it most likely just needs all the fluids and filters, wires and plugs to begin with.

You got a real steal. Half the people who come on here we scare away with horror stories because it's obvious they really want to treat it like a Nissan Sentra or a Ford Ranger (no offense, I own both). But to someone who sees it for what it is: a dressed up, old-fashioned military rig that needs grease and maintenance, they are awesome vehicles. I have maintained mine for 18 months and have not had a single "new" problem develop that I didn't catch in time to fix cheaply and easily. All of the big problems are pre-existing conditions from previous owners' years of neglect.
I wish mine were maintained like yours was.

You should see the Bobby Rahal LR Volvo Jag Aston Martin Spa just north of Pittsburgh. They have free gourmet coffee, big screen tvs, beautiful art work and photos and actual Land Speed World Record plaques won by Rahal in the fifties in his Jaguars, he has a few Land Speed Records.
Also a lot of his racing memorabilia and even a couple Aston Martin DB9 you can drool over. But his Mercedes Benz and McLarens are at a different facility, the really high class one with the five story glass showroom.
They even give you a free loaner when they "Service" you. Just use plenty of lube before you go in to pick it up, the initial shock is pretty rough, but if you bend way over and breathe deep, the pain subsides eventually.

Ok so I dug thru the receipts in the glove box. I found the dealer actually replaced the booster and master cyl and some "servo" costing 568 bucks.Total job cost was over 1400 bucks
I'm assuming the problem lies in the ABS module. That is a common problem with these trucks isn't it?

The ABS in my '96 was disabled when I bought it. I've been told that ABS is a frequent and expensive problem. I've also been told that if you want to wheel, you disable the ABS. The LR shop I had mine checked out at said that if I was going to be driving a family of five around in a daily driver they'd work up a quote to reinstall my ABS, but that it would cost thousands. Since it's for snow, fun and off-road I'm just leaving it alone. I've only noticed the lack of ABS twice, both right after I got it and in the snow while driving with both feet to keep the engine idling.

Yea. I do want this a possible daily. At least for awhile. My primary vehicle is my work truck so this is my more or less weekend wheeler/pleasure/errand vehicle.
As far as the brakes the service writer confirmed that the ABS components would be the only way te previous owner got a brake estimate in the thousands.
Obviously once I bring this thing home..go thru all the fluids, and check it all out, I can be more certain of the actual problem.
I needed to have some idea of what I was getting into. The fact that the whole top end has been rebuilt and so much other maint. Has been done makes me certain that I want to do it.

You can merely disable the ABS and still have full and safe brake capability. When these ABS system do malfunction, you get a pulsating pedal and loose all braking temporarily, so I would much prefer plain brakes than the Discovery ABS.
Check it out for yourself with a search.
