Look at an Ultra Gauge, a check with a scanner may show a coolant temp you "thought" was OK, the factory gauge is not real accurate.

'99 D1's are uncommon. (That was the first year of the D2.) Keep that in mind when looking for parts, D1's and D2's are pretty much incompatible.

That's exactly what I have to do as well, besides pulling old part off first and taking it with me. Some of these Service Advisors don't know everything either.

Something else to keep in mind, if your truck has the Advanced Evaporative Loss System (which according to an "expert" LR tech, AELS started on these trucks in 1997) you must specify AELS when ordering fuel system and some ignition parts. He still tried to give me a part that was for a non-AELS... namely the fuel tank/pump rubber sealing ring. It will NOT fit on a DI equipped with AELS. So I really don't know why he didn't just give me the right part in the first place?

You can tell if yours has the Advanced system by looking at the charcoal canister. Non-AELS is an upright cylindrical type, and AELS is a horizontal rectangle box.
