What are you crazy man?
No way I can do that, traffic is to heavy and I would have to go out at 2am and then get pulled over by the police and arrested for drunk driving because I was driving 10mph on the shoulder of the highway.
So I just move the decimal in my head.

So they put more than 10% corn squeezin's in your gas? We have some places around here that sell gas with no ethanol, very popular with the outboard motor crowd. Of course, young men being eternal speed demons, my older brother tanked up Dad's 421 2-4bbl Bonneville (in the 60's) with 136 octane aviation gas from the local airport, when they would let you do stupid things like that.

You can buy 110 octane around here, but it is leaded, if I didnt have cats I'd use it once and awhile, or put it in 5gal cans and mix it in with the 93 octane to make my own concoction.
But yeah, in the winter, they put in more than the 10% corn fuel, you can smell it when you start your engine from cold, stand by the tailpipe and if you have ever smelled E-85 exhaust, it smells like that only not as strong.
My Shell station is notorious for that, my gas gauge even reads lower than what I actually used if I use Shell because the float does not float well on corn.
So I try to avoid them lately.

XCELLER8, what did your cracked exhaust manifold sound like? Sound like one of the rockers was doing an Irish jig with tap shoes? I know what failed exhaust gaskets sound like and it's close but even higher pitch, like a stuffed lifter. This is only when motors cold and under load, it's almost inaudible when fully warmed up under load. I've had all the other unique LR sounds. Bought a neglected truck four years ago, still gets neglected....until I'M ready! I've looked the manifold over but nothing obvious staring back at me.

Spike, I just replaced mine this week and went with the standard NGK's (Champion equivalent) since NAPA didn't have standard Champs in stock???? Every plug they offered was platinum which I'm not really sold on for a wasted spark system. The champs I removed are all very light tan with over 30k on em and the gap at .038 on every one which is awesome since I set it at .035 the last time I checked them last summer. A buddy of mine on another forum went the Champion platinum route and said his idle had smoothed out as well so maybe next time I'll give em a try.
my crack, no pun intended, was about 4" long...and was pretty much dead center in the top of the manifold.....easy to see....even easier to hear. There was no mistaking it for any valve train noise. After I bought a used one , I found out that there was a recall on the '98's for that problem. While we're on the subject I need to replace my downpipe gaskets, I can hear it when I first start up in the morning.....I wish I could find the old style (probably asbestos) gaskets instead of the tin things they want us to buy now.

No pun taken, although a four inch crack is less than a chimps......

That's the one that is making the noise, between the manifold and the "Y" pipe. I took a look yesterday and snugged 6 of the manifold bolts down. I heard the unmistakable fttt, fttt, fttt coming from that connection when the motor was warm. I installed new studs, nuts, Neverseez and new gaskets when I did my head gaskets two years ago so it won't be too tough to cinch it up again.
