Default New Problems Arise

Ok so today my 1996 Disco took a very long time to start and then later on died at a stop light but started right up and was fine, I was thinking spark plugs. Also whenever the truck warms up after 30 or so minutes of driving the lifters stop tapping very loudly at idle and goes away at about 1200 RPM, I was told from a neighborhood mechanic that this could be from running too thin oil, 10W40 or I might need a new exhaust manifold gasket. Any help would be great!

Check out the thread on the general maintence page regarding oil and oil filters. SHELL Rotella T 15w40 seems like everyone's choice. I know it was an instant improvement in my 96. Clean the out Idle air sensor, and SeaFoam clean the throatal body and that should help. These are all easy and
quick. Less than 50.00 . Great how toss on the general maintenance folder!

X2 on Rotella and good jumbo filter. See the tech area for a write up. If your 96 has an OBDII port might also consider attaching a scanner to see real temperature. If running hot, oil can be thinned out. Gauges are not very accurate, as pix shows. 180F thermosat works great in my D1.

So I looked at today, temp was fine stayed under half at all times but was told I had a collapsing upper radiator hose. I was told it's collapsing when the truck hears up so this should be an easy fix.
