Default No Low Beam Lights

* Reposting from general tech.

I am having an issue with my headlights. I've pulled the switch and tore it down, cleaned the contacts and checked continuity. No problem there. I also checked the fuses under the dash and the fuse under the hood.

The contacts to the lights look good and the filaments in the bulbs are still good.

I have no low beams and the highs wont stay on unless I hold the stalk back (flash switch is good).

I know that on the 300tdi there is a dim dip relay under the steering column but I can't seem to find any sort of relay in the electrical troubleshooting manual for a '97 gas D1

Any ideas?

not sure about the location of the dim / dip relay in your truck, I believe mine was located on the right kickpanel, but when mine showed these symptoms it was the fuse under the hood. It looked ok but when you really inspected it it was burned thru.

For a couple of weeks previous the lights would sometime take a while to come on when I first started the truck, almost like a delay, but I'd click the switch a few times and it would work. It was the electricity bridging the small gap in the fuse.

edit: see post 4 on this thread...should have a picture of the rave manual

Hmmmmm. That sounds exactly like my problem. I'll take a closer look at the fuses under the hood.

Mine was the switch itself. Removed, Disassembled and cleaned the contacts and all is well now... I'd bet your issue is the same... Not a bad job as far as Discos go...
