Post yep neglected

Neglect is the right word for it. I just bought it for $800 and fixed a mess of little problems, was happy the oil problem was that easy and that it passed smog (once I reset a false code). Pervious owner was a woman with zero clue about the car. Next I'm going through the the other lubricants, transmission and diff. 187k miles.

Drowssap, I think red rust is not magnetic, so I did not attempt to test the flakes with a magnet. It was red-ish brown sometimes when you'd scrape it and the oil hadn't soaked in so pretty sure it was rusting the pan. Didn't see any obvious rust in the crank case though so hopefully it's just the pan. Maybe water in the oil many miles ago?

ihscouts I'll use "rightStuff" next time. Good call.
