Default engine oil light comes on when braking

Hello all, I have an 04 Disco with about 35,000 miles. No major problems so far. Lately, in the past few weeks, the engine oil light comes on when I brake moderately hard to a stop. This doesn't happen all the time, perhaps at one stop every other day. I'm thinking it just needs a top up, but I'm worried it's a symptom of a more serious problem. The engine sounds fine, no rattles.

When was the last time an oil change was performed (what type) and what other maintenance service has it had?

Thanks for all your replies! To clarify, the light turns off immediately after. It had the full oil service about 8 months ago. I intended to take it in soon anyway.

Wait, wait, wait, your last oil change was 8 MONTHS AGO?!
When was the last time that you checked the oil level? How far have you driven since your last oil change?

It's not driven very much - perhaps 4k miles since then. I've been doing it roughly every 5-6k miles, and it has been fine so far through the life of the vehicle, and it's never done this before.

There are a few number of 2004's with bad oil pumps, yours may be one of them.
You really need to change the oil more often, every 3 months or 3,000 miles, if you are using full synthetic motor oil then every 6 months or 5,000 miles, and check the oil level EVERY time you get gas.

Start paying more attenetion to your truck or it will cost you dearly. Oil is changed on our adiscos, every 3000 miles or 6 months with no exception except for using synthetic oil then change every 5000 miles.
Get that pressure checked ASAP.
