Default Oil Pump Rebuild

Please tell me if I'm doing this correctly. This is an authentic Land Rover rebuild kit.

Old oil pump gears

Removed old gears and packed with grease

Installed new gears

It appears there's no "front" side to the gears?
The new center gear does not sit flush with the other new gears. However, on the old gear set, it does sit flush. You can see this in the photos. Is this correct?

I'm offended by your comment.

The only thing i can see that might go wrong is when the main pulley is back on. The pulley might be out a few millimeters, which could cause issues with belt alignment.....

Actually I don't know. I'll be replacing mine soon though.
If you don't get a satisfactory answer, ask on this forum Land Rover UK Forums
I know there are several who've done it.
It doesn't seem right to me though.

Can you photo side by side new center gear and old center gear (the part sticking up is "new" and part of the "new" set?)?

Here's a pix from DeepBlueWater, it looks like his is pretty close to "flat" as well.

The center gear is not removable because of small indentations that are pressed into it. They allow it to float in the middle, but not fall out. The indentations on the new gears appear to be slightly larger.

My current theory is that it doesn't matter, either because the gear is supposed to float somewhere in the middle anyways, or because the indentations will eventually wear corresponding indentations into the receiving gear, thereby making them flush.

That does look pretty flat, but I wonder what the new set looked like.
