Normally, I'd just do it, but money is tight and she's on a 'get-out-of-debt' kick right now. So it's either lift it 2"(which would probably be 3" since it sags) or get a 7mm mag... Decisions decisions.

I totally feel that, money is tight for us also, thats why I even bothered experimenting with homemade ghetto type lift. I must have pulled out and swapped the springs around 3 times before finding the right combo, but it only cost me $50.00. You ever notice the more money you make the MORE money you all of a sudden need to pay the bills or just live?. My wife and I make about 40,000 more a year now then we did 6 years ago and yet we STILL sometimes just squeek by and we ARE being frugal as possible. Its damned frustrating!. Every year I do taxes and see what we make total and go "wow, where the heck does X amount of money go a year"?. It makes me wanna live a much more simple life.

I feel you guys on the money thing but this is cheap enough that as soon as I have the extra cash laying around I'm going to pull the trigger on this mod (still haven't figured out how to get it past the old lady who thought the disco was absolutely fine just running)

We keep trying to live 'simpler'. But it just doesn't seem to work. We have no car payments, I do all the vehicle maintenance, I do all the house repairs and remodeling(that sucks up some money), I get all our vehicles for dirt cheap or free because I can fix them, I get parts discounts through work, we have goats and chickens and putting up a greenhouse this spring, don't eat out(at all), only 40 miles of road, so can't burn up gas(I use $15 of gas a week in the DiscoI)...not sure what else to cut back on. Don't drink and smoke, don't have a tv(by choice) and no cell phone(by choice). I make good money, my wife stays home with the 3 kids(6,4 and 5months). Have to make every penny count it seems. I remember when I lived in Boise,ID and made less than half what I make now and could buy all kinds of crap...

Geesh, ya I'm not sure what else you could cut back on!. I have 3 boys 13, 7, 5, with another little one on the way. I drive 15 miles to work and then 23 miles to pick my kids up at night after school, so approx 40-45 miles a day, then the wife drives to work and then home, thats about 30-35 miles a day for her. Were seriously considering moving back to Maine where I'm from, I have property there, she wants to be a stay at home mom now but the problem is that shes the bread winner!!. She makes 30 bucks an hour right now, more than me, so losing $30 an hour would HURT!!. BUT if we no longer pay for daycare, no longer pay an outrageous Rent payment of 2300.00 a month, cut out cable TV, lose her car payment. Maybe just maybe we could pull it off. I just get pissed because we together make well over 100K a year, yet somedays we are raiding the change jar to find gas money!. Its downright scary because the costs of life are going UP and shes topped out in pay and I'm close to being topped out so...............Were not going to make much more $$$$$ and prices ARE NOT going to stop going up up up. Its almost like people are going to be forced to go back to pioneer living, 1 person works, have just 1 vehicle, grow your own food, literally DO NOTHING because just thinking about leaving the house costs $$$$$$$.

SCORE! Sourced a set of front coils off a 91 FJ80 with the 31" tire and 5000lb towing package for $75 shipped to my door. Hopefully be ordering these in the next couple days and be riding 2" higher. God bless you other guys who figure stuff like this out and make Rovers affordable for the rest of us on a tight budget. Now if someone could just come up with a post full of good reasons to justify stuff like this to the ol' lady we will be set.

Will do, don't hold your breath though. I have to replace an axle and end links in my gfs car before I can dream of messing with the Rover and there always seems to be more projects than hours in the day.

AK, pardon my suspension related ignorance but the fj sites say the passenger and driver side coils are of varying length. Is this the same for disco I's ? I've never seen our springs side by side but in a picture I saw the fj80 coils seemed to be different lengths.
