I picked up some d1 brake dust shields on one of my u pull trips and have been up in the air on using them, I like the clean wheels but mud being trapped in there is my concern though we do not wheel often, thoughts

 

I got rid of mine about a year and a half ago. Got tired of rocks and debris getting stuck in there. No ill side effects.

 

Dust shields dont keep your wheels clean, at least not the kind that come from the factory, on the inside of the hub.
You can get rid of them with no ill effects.

I am sure you are being funny, I do mean the aluminum thin ones that go between hub and rim

 

There are dust shields that go between the wheel and the hub.

 

jmtc. I always trash the shields, on most of my vehicles. they may very well block some debris, but the junk that gets past and trapped in there is a pita to remove and clean.
between the hub and wheel? what is this one? thought you meant the one on the backside.

oh wow. i didn't know such a creature existed. thanks for the info. that does look like it could cut down on brake dust to the rim.

 

That is them for street only probly OK unsure what they will do with mud and sand
