Test your fan clutch real quick. Also, your radiator could still be clogged internally a slight bit.

But I forgot to mention that I did check the fan clutch. at least with the "how much does it spin" test. When cold, it get's about 1/2 turn. (cold is relative.. remember, it's 102d ambient here)
I tried to buy the Heavy Duty fan clutch today anyway, but the dood at the parts-store was shtoopid. (that's a compound word that the censors don;t flag
)
I may try to round one up tomorrow when the better parts houses are open.

OK, so if it spins about 1/2 turn when engine is cold in morning (like has not run for 8 hours).... warm up truck for 10 minutes, then turn off, and spin test again. Should not freewheel or spin more than 1 revolution when released when hot. If it does, it has lost most of the internal fluid and needs to be replaced. Checking a clutch at one temp is not a confirmation of good. Of course, if it freewheels when cold, it is bad to begin with.
Fan clutch is 2000 Chevy Express van 4.3 liter without AC. That will be six inch diameter. If you are a doofus like me, you'll buy the one for AC, and then find out that it is 7 inch and too big.

Remember the Rover has an Aluminum engine, so if it keeps overheating you will have a lot more issues to deal with like warped heads or cracked block. Drive the Benz until you fix the LR! The Benz is a lot more forgiving!

If I see any filth built up on the front of a fan clutch I watch it very closely, or just replace it. The dirt that has collected has a reason to stick, the fluid that is leaking out of it.
You want to hear a loud roar at start up that goes away soon after as the fluid has time to spin around inside the clutch. Also you want to hear a loud roar somewhere above 180. Mine likes to engages about 185.
When was the last time you pulled and inspected / replaced your spark plugs? They can tell you a story.
I like to recommend plug inspection and a compression test. There's absolutely no reason not to do this especially if service history is even a little unclear. It's really cheap to do or free.
