See Expeditionware Brass Plug -- EE -- Expedition Exchange Incorporated

Note that it is available from a variety of larger on line sources. It is NOT 1/2 NPT, so if you use a standard plumbing fitting it may work for a while, and may cause problems later. Once you have used the NPT plug you have altered the threads somewhat of the $600 radiator.

I have the same, and also have no leak, but if I ever wanted to go to the expedition plug, then I guess I would have to re-thread? The NPT is tapered, the original is not. I would suppose if you tightened the NPT enough you could cause a problem.

Why would you have to chase the threads to switch back?
The plug bottoms out so you are not stressing the threads at all.
I have put the old plastic plug back in just for poos and giggles and no problems.
I'm not saying dont use the "correct" plug, I'm just saying dont worry about if you are using the alternate part.

I don't think mine bottomed out, and it certainly works. But if someone wants to buy the right one, good idea. I will correct my future gibberish to mention that NPT brass for cheap, other one if you can wait. As you mention many "discover" the need when half of plug cracks off and floats in the coolant. If you are quick, squeeze upper hose and squirt a little coolant out with the pieces.

Definitely worth it do not do a hack. Order some RTC3511 hub seals while you're at it, you'll need them anyway.
