Default Passenger Window Sliding Down

Hi folks

My rear, right-side passenger window won't go up. When I press the switch, it makes some kind of intermittent noise but the window doesn't move. When I pull the window up by hand, it goes up freely but then won't stay up. Slides about halfway down the frame. I've pulled the door panel off and am looking inside the door, but I don't know exactly what to look for to diagnose the problem. Seems like a dead motor maybe?

FWIW, I don't care if the window works or not -- just want it to stay up. Any ideas/quick fixes?

Hi I'm new to the world of land rovers but I recently did a window rebuild on my 97. It sounds like your window pane isn't bolted to the slide on the window regulator. If it was correctly attached it shouldn't slide down unless the motor is completely fubar.

The window pane bolts to the ends of the slide at the top of this picture. If you hear noise it should mean the motor still has some kick to it. I would open the door, pull the window up to the closed position, clamp it, and then activate the window button until the slide is in a position where you can access the bolt holes. The window pane is able to sit on the slide without bolts so it won't be too hard to work on. What I learned from working on them is you need to be really patient with yourself. If you end up needing to remove the assembly to replace/fix the motor or other parts, it can take a while to get everything in the right position, and there can be a lot of backtracking to fix minor mistakes. While you have the door panel off those plastic bearings could use a helping of lithium grease.

The roller on the regulator broke. You can pull the window all the way up and then press the up button until you get the metal post that use to hold the plastic “wheel” in to the track below the glass. That will hold it up

Cool. Thanks for the help. I'll give this a try. It's tough to even see or get back there though. After removing the panel, everything basically is behind metal. Any tips or do I just have to feel around in there?

Not sure what you have but on a D1 you can reach up from the bottom and feel the grove on the bottom of the window. Be careful as you raise the regulator it’s a fight fit and it will not care about your skin of fingers.

It's a 98 D1. I'll give this a go. Thanks!

Thanks for the help. I didn't see this post before, for some reason. So, the problem has now... evolved, lol. The motor is completely busted (doesn't make any type of noise when I press the button). Any tips? I'm also having a lot of trouble even seeing any of this stuff -- everything is behind the metal door "panel" even after taking off the interior panel.
