ok just tried unlock once lock five times cycle... no luck
Checked for spark w/timing light and I have spark
Pulled #1 plug and it was wet with fuel
the only thing missing from the equation is air but I cleaned the air flow meter, replaced air filter, and cleaned the gunk out of plenum. I was thinkin about spraying some starting fluid in the intake...any thoughts?

So it cranks and won't start? You need to verify that you are getting fuel and spark. I see that you did check for spark and are getting it at all 8 plugs. Is it a strong blue spark, or a weak yellow spark? If the coil or amplifier starts to go out, you could still get spark, but not enough to really run well.

Also, you need to confirm you are getting fuel.

Do your brake lights work? If the brake light switch is bad, you might not be able to get the shifter out of park. You could probably disconnect the cable from the linkage on the transmission and put it in neutral manually. (be careful though, because the cable is kind of high dollar).

Per your quote: (that part really pisses me off how the hell am I supposed to get it towed to the shop if/when I give up I am not going to have it dragged on to a rollback...

If you do need to have your Discovery towed you had better get a flatbed to have it towed on. If you allw someone to tow it without a flatbed or rollback, you will severely damge the driveline.

The only other thing I can think to check somes from this site:
http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdet...l/fusebox.html

And states:
On turning the key there were no error messages although the message center said none of the windows, lift gate or sunroof were set. "The only error message I get is when I set the alarm and try to turn it over: "Engine disabled use remote". The Engine light comes on and goes off before I try to start it. The remote will unlock and lock the doors, except the passenger side front door and arm/disarm the alarm. I have tried the generic EKA procedure #1515 with no avail. When turning the lock, the side lights will blink so I think it is recognizing the input although the lock seems to be a little loose. We have tried unhooking battery and hooking back up with key in #2 position as well. Fuses and relays seem to be fine. We have replaced the remote batteries and made sure the vehicle battery is fully charged as well. When we turn the key, there is a click noise from the controller under the passenger side seat and that is about it. I feel it is in the alarm system but am having absolutely no luck!"

A week later Brian wrote back in with the following news: "We took the fusebox apart and repaired it from the info you provided and it worked! We found all kinds of solder joints that needed repairs and once we repaired them the Rangie started up and runs excellent. I was very grateful that it was not the BECM!"

yeah i know the rover needs to towed on a roll back period, but my issue is with having to have it DRAGGED(consindering current locked out state of transmision and differential selectors) up onto said rollback... thank you for pointing that ou though

As for the tranny lock out definitely check the brake lights. If your bulb is burned out or the brake switch is bad it will lock the tranny. Happened to me. Replaced the burned out drivers side bulb and I was back in business. Sorry I can't help with the start issue. You have tried everything I can think of. If it was a gems I would say try replacing the ECU but you don't have that problem so.....good luck.

ok the rover has finally started(it was a dumb rookie mistake -wires on cap put in wrong spots..yeah I feel pretty pretty stupid) Alarm no longer an issue, replaced brake light switch(trans still locked out) turn signals not working but hazards work??? and brake lights do not work. When I bought it three weeks ago the upper brake light worked and the lower ones didn't now none of them do. even though I got it started it still doesn't wan't to start. I double checked plug gap and they are all .035 when it was running I checked timing and I could only see marker not mark on harmonic balancer. how could it be that far out of timing and run fine that first week and then I pull it up on ramps and try to show it some love and care and all flippin hell breaks loose. On the coil there are 4 wires coming out of the plastic tubing right at the coil but they don"t attach to the coil they plug into each other and then they were taped back to the plastic tubing anyway took them apart to clean and waterproof them not sure if they are reconnected properly does anyone know what what the order is and what they do. This thing has me at my wits end I would love to give up at this point and send it to the dealer but since I lost my job last friday can't really afford $99/hr plus the inflated parts prices, I have to power through it. Any advice that you guys give is greatly appreciated I am so glad there is such a "brotherhood" amongst rover owners don't think I could have kept my sanity thus far w/out you guys so thank you for all the advice to this point

did you check all the fuses, there are 2 fuses that run the multi function unit, they are 12 and 13, if they burn out you get weird stuff happening.

Another symptom I forgot to mention, after it started and I pulled one of the plugs(brand new) to check the gap and it was jet black like it was burning really rich I'm not sure if that is a byproduct of trying to start so many times w/out turning over or if it is a problem that needs some more investigation
