patience wearing thin 94 Disco still won"t start
Make sure the bulbs themselves are functional by removing them and testing them and checking the contacts in the bulb housing....
You said there were four wires next to the coil but not attached to the coil..... does you coil look like this? How many wires ARE plugged into the top of the coil? In my pic the HT lead is removed but the other wires (to ignition switch and amp) should be connected.

Does your Distributor still have its amp attached to it or has it been located somewhere else? Have you chcked your reverse light switch?

oh and the amplifier is on the side of the distributor, when I did check the spark it was bright white didn't seem weak at all.... do all rovers come w/a crash course in diagnostics or did I just get lucky
They end up needing lots of little things (and some big jobs) fixed when they have been "neglected" in the past. By neglected I mean not kept to a pretty strict preventative maintenance program. If we literally folowed the maintenance schedule outlined in the owners manual these trucks would have a far better reputation. They're more work than your average A to B ride for sure. Rovers are like owning an older Porsche, Jag, etc... great but needy.
I look at it this way, I drive a hobby.
Have you downloaded the Full set of Workshop Manuals called Rave?

yes I got all the manuals and have been pouring over them, I don't mind working on it that much cause I think it has potential. When I bought it the engine felt strong but needed some gaskets... I figured one weekend project at time and it would be good in no time... Anyway I just had it started took about a minute or two of cranking and then it started and idled @1100 RPM's on its own power for about a min and then stalled out after the throttle was applied...I'm thinking TPM any thoughts? Oh and about the transmission lockout issue I pulled the center console and found the solenoid that has it locked any suggestions on how to troubleshoot that.
