All that said please remember.... If it doesn't leak, it is empty!
I overachieved on that one for sure, and overachieving is worse than communism, but i will correct myself when working on the front cover again!

hylomar is a great product for the front cover. A thin (2-3 mm) line on each side of the gasket works very nicely.

Also, there are some outfits that sell a paper version of the gasket. Other sell the thicker 'cardboard' version (like a water pump gasket). I used the thicker version fwiw.

Ensure coolant concentration, then simply loosen the reservoir cap to unpressurize the cooling system.
Hello Good People,
Good to to see the forum help is thriving with positive feedback.

Hey JohnZo, I appreciated your feedback in a previous post on the unpressurized setup.
Question: tighten the coolant cap than back it off by a quarter turn? Half turn?

Sorry about the repeat. Sadly I don't want to be this person, yet I am the person that often is laughed at because I am slower than others in understanding the differences between pegasus and unicorn. Both are mythical horse-like creatures, but they differ in origin, appearance, and symbolism.

Thank you

There is a great article written on this by the forum member on his blog here: https://extinctmotorsports.com/the-e...s-10-min-read/
He explains how to do it and all the pros and cons of doing that. I'm running my disco now in this manner too.

Toran, I hope this is working for you. The concept is that the rubber gasket barely makes contact, so pressure does not build up, coolant does not splash out, and dirt does not fall in. I replaced the cap on one vehicle with the poly insert that came with a new translucent tank, fashioned a simple vent hole.

Hey JohnZo,

Good to hear from you!
I did not mean to hijack this thread, got so excited and equally curious. If your time permits please share an image of your modified cap. An image is worth a thousands words.
Words are my 2nd language, my first is images.

Thanks
