Default Power Loss Up Hill

Ok, I did a search and most were related to the TDi so sorry if this is repetitive. I was driving up a very steep road last night, very steep, had it in 1st and she was shuddering a bit and didn't feel like there was much torque. It wasn't a long hill but enough to make me wonder if it's tranny related, fuel delivery related, tank was full.

It's the slight shudder that makes me wonder. Does almost the same thing when it shifts from 1 to 2 on flat ground but it's a .5 second shudder so any help is greatly appreciated. I am due for a tranny fluid/filter change as well as t-case so if it sounds like it's related please let me know.

I do not think it is strictly limited to tranny as possible causes. My wifes Explorer used to do that and it turned out to be VSS. When it does not pproperly adjust the timing/fuel delivery/spark/ etc, it will be most noticable on uphill climbs. When mine was running rich, it acted like that predominantly on very steep incline.

After my MAF cleaning, new wires, and plugs, that problem no longer exists and i did nothing toward servicing the tranny.
