Default Power Steering

Had a serious bumpy trip to Ponta Do Oara this weekend.

On the way the power steering pump starts "Whining" as if there is no P/S fluid.
I bought fluid and topped up maybe 10 ml and was actually overfilled.
But the whining persists.

Any Idea's.???????

My pump doesn't whine, but there is often no power steering help at idle speed when warm although it works OK when first started. I can get some power steering if I hold the brake and rev the engine a bit. Same answer? Bad pump and needing a chevy PS pump transplant?

You can use a Chevy s10 pump they are around $50 just need to change the boss that holds the pulley ( press on off) and the hose to the resevoir

Hi Guys,
You will never believe this Story: I needed to travel to South Africa with the "whining steering pump". It is about a 600 km trip passing 3 borders, Mozambique-Swaziland- South Africa.
Business done and on my way back, as I entered a small town something seized with a frightening noise which brought the Disco to a abrupt stop.

First to mind: "The whining Steering pump"
Slacked the tensioner on the belt and found the pump pully turning but the alternator is totally stuck. (The shaft pointing about 45 Deg west) Front bearing disintegrated.
Bought a universal V-belted alternator ($75) and changed the pully's on the road, fit the alternator and re-tension the belt.
AND: No more whining !!!!!! none, zero, nothing.
and yes, I have already ordered the new steering pump !!!

Pumps easy to change just be sure to break loose the pulley bolts before removing the belt, probly like a 20 minute job to swap it
