Default Question on how to Crank engine after head gasket job

Hi all,

im finishing my HG job in my 1998 D1, im familiar with process of cranking it up few times to lubricate the engine before start in my D2 by disconnecting the fuel pump fuse. Can someone help me with the process for a D1? I assume is the same but I don’t know where the fuel fuse is located.

Fuse is in the Engine Compartment Fuse Box. Inside the fuse box cover specifies which fuse. Good job getting it back together. Mine made a lot of racket for about a minute before the lifters got pumped up.

I would also remove the spark plugs and crank it until I got oil pressure.

would unplugging the wires be sufficient?

I just disconnect the fuel pump relay, turn over a couple of times and then reconnect it & start it. Oil light should go out quickly then it'll take a few seconds for the rockers to fill. Engine will usually quiet down within 30sec to a minute or two depending on how much cleaning you did.

'Fraid not. Removing the plugs allows it to spin over much faster. That and removing the fuel pump relay should do the trick.

Right, I’m aware fuel relay needs to be disconnected, I was wondering why would someone take the spark plugs off when you can just disconnect the wires? In any case I’m going to do the same I did for my D2 which was fuel relay disconnect

In all my years I've just disconnected fuel relay, spun it over like 5 cycles and started it up.

As Best says, you’re probably okay, but I agree with hrhoward. I would remove the spark plugs (engine will spin very freely), then crank with the starter for 30 to 60 seconds to make sure everything is fully oiled.
