Default questions about 98 disco1 maintaince

I Got my 98 land rover about a month ago, so far i have replaced the spark plugs, air & fuel filter and front ball joints. so my question is what else should i be looking at to get her in peek running condition. I was recommended a fuel flush and a transmission fluid flush by my local shops both costing about $230. but thought id get some opinions on that first. other than a 1179 error code that wont go away i think its linked to my maf, and my heater not working probable just need to replace the gasket, she runs great and the low range works like a charm off road.

first thread on the forums but i used it to research the purchase on my disco and some basic trouble shooting.

What is a fuel flush, aside from driving till empty, then refilling the tank?

Clean the MAF with MAF cleaner.

Replace spark plug wires with 8mm wires.

What gasket do you replace to fix your heater?

Pour a can of SeaFoam in the gas tank. Change your own tranny fluid and filter. Heater not working is a serious problem sometimes. (a) previous owner may have bypassed heater core with a "loop" of rubber hose under the hood; because (B) the heater makes water fall sounds from coolant with exhaust gas bubbles in it from bad head gasket; or (c) you are way low on coolant.

yea i was confused on the fuel flush thought they just wanted to get money out of me. I was told the heater was either a easy fix like a seal/gasket or it was my heater core.

What ball joints? Are you referring to the tie rod ends?

If you are unsure of previous maintenance, do the entire 60k mile service. I think it's in a sticky. Won't hurt, will help you get to know your rig.

Why do you need help to pour a bottle of Seafoam into the gas tank?

It sounds like he's nervous about the induction clean part.

Then he shouldn't do it. He needs to focus on what needs repaired/replaced and not bother with induction cleaning unless he has nothing else to do.
