Quoted $1100 for all 16 rocker arms replaced.. cant I do just the bad 1 myself?
my main concern with the rods, is that they needed to be in some sort of height sequence for timing purposes,,,.. but your saying that they all are the same height , its just you want to keep them in order to put them back into the same order/environment they came out of?
yes, put rods back in exactly like they came out. If you want to put a piece of masking tape on them with a number, that is fine also, just take the tape off. And if you order rocker arms, 8 of each, if doing one (maybe the budget won't allow it) order the pair (left and right).
If its not to much to ask, I would still like a little brain power on developing a list of all the things I will need to do this job. I have never done much outside a valve gasket and alternator, so any one that can help me shore up the learning gap with a list would be greatly appreciated.
sorry to be toppsy turvvy on everyone, but I just went down and took another look at it. I think I will pay to have them both done. to much crap for me to screw up under there. Thank you for all your feed back!
IMHO if you can do valve cover gaskets on a Discovery you can do this job. Here is a link at AB to a complete set of everything needed (probably not need everything pictured). IIRC the RAVE covers the assembly/ installation of the shaft pretty well. the most complicated part is making sure that the "notch" in the end of the shaft is forward.

I just spoke with the shop. They said that they can do just the right side, (easy side) for 600. I think after I get everything set up myself I will be close to that anyway, so I am going to go ahead and have them do it at some point in the near future.
