Here is some background and a diagram with the pinout on the back of the head unit. Note the cable that normally goes to the CD player simply hangs off the back of the unit.

I sense caliper rebuilds in the immediate future so this little bit of fun will have to wait.

so it seems no one answered your question about replacing the LCD in the radio head. i have the same problem and would like to know if it can be replaced and who does it and how much? i have a 98 range rover hse with the premium sound system. any help would be great! thanks

The LCD ended up being ok. Didn't need to do anything except change some wee little bulbs.

I'm having the same issue with my 2008 LR2 HSE, I can see text just fine on the screen but the green backlight doesn't work so I cant see it at night and when its really bright out. I called a landrover dealership and they told me it would be thousands of dollars to fix lol. Anyone find a way to fix the backlight?
