Default really annoying

My brake light switch went bad and I couldn't shift out of park so I replaced it. The switch looks exactly the same and I mated it with the old one to make sure it was the same length etc. Now the brake lights are on all the time. The brake pedal doesn't seem to even touch the plunger and as far as I can tell I pushed the new switch all the way home and in as far as it will go. If i manually press the plunger in with my fingers then the brake lights do go out so the switch works.

Am I supposed to adjust the brake pedal and if so how?
Thanks
Alan

Might be the wrong switch, some make connection untill the plunger is depresed and some are not connected untill the plunger is depressed, check with a multi meter to figure out what the switching is.
