Default really strange ABS light

Hi guys: I have a really strange problem. Every now and then my ABS light comes on for no reason. I'll just be driving down the road and on it comes. If I turn off the engine, it returns to normal and might not come on again for days. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. My mechanic thinks it may be the ABS module but I thought I'd get some other opinions. The brakes work great (ABS included) and the red brake light doesn't come on. I'm baffled.

Maybe check your ABS wheel speed sensors. you could be getting a sporatic signal back from a loose connection or fouled sensor.
Just a guess.

Sounds like a wheel sensor. Take a screwdriver or punch and gently tap the sensor down.
