Default rear noise

Im getting a noise from the passenger side rear end. It not the differential it happens sometimes when going straight and always when turning. Is it safe to say I need new bearings ? Its not so much a grinding sound but like a squeaky door hinge.

If it is the bearings is this an easy replacement?

Yes this sounds like wheel bearings.
Make sure you do both sides at the same time.
And keep in mind that once the noise starts they go from squeak to seized in a matter of miles.
Check the tech section for part numbers and Discoweb.org has a actual write up on how to do it.
I do not remember if we have a actual write up or not.

They tend to weld themselves in place if you let it go to far. Replace those bearings real soon and it is pretty straight forward. You remove the wheels and then unbolt the hubs. The bearings are right there. Replace the cups aswell with new bearings. Repack it good with something like the Lucas Bearing Grease.

There are some other threads here that list the part number for the double lipped seals that are a step above the standard Diso seal if you want improved seals for off-road use.
Here's one link that list several items you will need:

You will need that large socket to unbolt the hub fromthe axle easily. Also lockwashers, gasket, seals. I also bought new bolts for easier reassembly. Rovers North has all that stuff as well. RovahFarms prices look a little better for the large socket and some of the other items.

So, if you haven't serviced/repacked/replace your bearings in the last 30,000 miles then buy 4 sets and do both the front and rear wheel bearings. Whiles doing the front service and reset the preloads on your front swivels also and change your gear oil in both diffs.
