My D1 had the ignition replaced, so it came with 2 sets of keys...that each had 2 keys. One key to open the doors, one key to start the truck. Is it very difficult, or even possible without taking it to a dealer, to rekey all the doors and the fuel tank? I'd like to be able to just have the one key, and not have to fumble around for which is which.

Also, the rear door locks by the remote fob (generally), but will not open by it. You have to open the door with the original key. Anyone have thoughts on that? I've never messed with car doors before.

Might be easier to re-key the ignition lock.

 

I agree with Jim that it'd be easier to just rekey the ignition lock using your door lock keys. My key broke off inside the ignition lock, so I had to remove the lock mechanism to retrieve the other half of the key. I had copies made of the original years ago, but they never worked correctly. I put the copies in the lock mechanism and filed the tumblers flat as referenced in the thread below. Good luck!

Thanks! Will this not make it significantly less secure? Multiple keys could start it? I guess I have the other keys that still could though...

 

Once you file the tumblers to match the door lock keys, the other keyset that used to start the truck won't work any longer.
