Default Return To Original Stereo

My disco’s previous owner put a crappy after-market JVC stereo unit in the dash, and I hate it. I hate the way it looks mostly, but the CD motor randomly whines every five minutes like I’m putting something in. Even when the car is off! There are also new speakers installed.
I’m considering returning to the factory stereo because my passenger’s seat still has the multi-disc unit underneath and I want to use it.
Would it be better to just get a different after-market stereo unit and save myself the hassle?

Yes, unless you know for sure they didn't hack any of the wiring for the stereo (or amp).

D1's need a security code for the radio, so if you get an OEM one you will need to make sure you get that code with it.

Afraid logan is right. Unless you have a stock unit and know the code (or the VIN of the truck it came out of) ya got yourself a brick.
Sounds like you would be better off going the aftermarket route.

I have a strong feeling that they did re-route a lot of electronics in the car judging by other things I’ve fixed in it. Well, new after-market stereo it is then. I’m just sad I have a useless multi-disc changer I have to pawn off now.

Great space for installing an Inverter, then running some outlets and a switch into the console so you can have a "new car feature".

It also works well as a place for your whiskey.
