Default Road Speed Tranducer

Hello, I have a 1997 disco with a speedometer / road speed transducer issue. My gauge cluster works fine except the the speedometer and odometer. Which is stuck at zero along with odometer. I think it is related to the road speed transducer. When I looked underneath I saw two wires connected to the transducer, one was securely connected, the other was severed. With only a little bit left in the transducer and the rest just swinging in the wind. What is the best solution for this issue. Thanks in advance.

You may need a new VSS if you don't have enough of the wiring left to effect a proper repair.

The wiring is part of the harness, and not the VSS. He should not need to replace the VSS. The VSS has no external wires according to images I've seen. The connector to the VSS might be damaged and need replaced. If so, you may want to post in the wanted section for a section of wiring harness to repair it with.

Default wiring harness

Sorry I haven't responded I have been busy with other activities, moving to an bigger house. I have seen wires and and other supplies from a nearby automotive supply store, will those wires work in place of a land rover wiring harness or not? Just wondering. Thanks for the tips, still working on the problem.

Unfortunatly, the harness that goes to the VSS is a molded connector, meaning it is VSS specific and if there is not enough wire left coming out of the harness to fix, you will have to replace the harness.

I have never seen one sold new, so you will probably have to scrounge junk yards to get a used one with as much length of wire still attatched as possible.

Hey Montana, can you take a pic of the offending plug and broken wires?

Pull the harness off the sensor, and see what type of connectors are in there. I have had mine off, but can not remember. Maybe they're a standard type, like a blade connector. Then you could cut the harness off, put a matching connector on each wire, and plug each one on seperatly. Hope that makes sense.

Otherwise, I would be calling junk yards, asking for the harness and as much of the wire with it they could get.
