rotoflex quality
Yup, looks like it might be time to replace THAT one!!!!!
What are guys referring to "needing heat" when replacing the rotoflex? I'm assuming only if you swap out and go non-rotoflex?
Mine was cracked (not nearly as bad as OP) and caused vibration when decelerating at speeds over 50....got a good used one from Will Till for about $30.
PB Blaster, two 19mm open ends, and a flat head to leverage the shaft off and it's a done deal. I'm not expecting this one to last very long, but should buy me some time to work up the courage to convert.

The heat is needed to remove the flange frm the rear diff when converting from a 3 bolt that accomodattes the rotoflex to the 4 bolt for the non-roto-flex.
I got one from Will also, but it only lasted a few months. My 30 year old son was driving my Disco in the snow and he came home one night with it all screwed up. I went thru 3 rotoflexes then went to the 98 d/s. Happy with it.
We were underneath it in 20 degree weather laying on top of cardboard over ice and snow swapping a shredded RotoFlex on a cold December night. I decided right then, no one else drives my Discovery and no more RotoFlex. It is amazing what you can do when you have to. We had the old one out and the new one in in a matter of minutes.

All that is needed is:
(1) a rear driveshaft that has the rear u-joints instead of the rotoflex. Mid 97 and 98, not sure after that, they switched back to the rotoflex at some point.
(2) the rear flange is different (3 bolt for rotoflex, 4 bolt for other one,
(3) Spacer - there is a spacer due to minoir length differences
(4) a seal - (Antichrist sold me a seal and a bolt to help remove old flange)
It is a fairly simple change over if you do not screw up removing the existing piece that is lock-tited on like I did, then it is a couple of days on your back in the driveway with a hacksaw. Still doable, just a little more fun.
